Greetings and welcome to the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast, I am your host Peter Lorimer, former hit record producer, now host of the show Stay Here on Netflix and owner LA’s most creative boutique real estate firm, PLG Estates.
Lots of knowledge bombs in this one.
We all know I'm a technology nerd. So it's no surprise that I was thrilled to interview this week's guest, Ian Khan. This guy is the real deal. He's spoken at TedX multiple times, he's a Forbes contributor, and an author of some really amazing books, two of which are The Internet of Things, and a CNN Technology Expert.
Ian doesn't like hype. He likes authenticity, he likes reality - and I dig it.
An engineer by trade, and an educator at heart, he got his hands dirty in a lot of different industries and absorbed everything he could in the first 20 years of his career. One thing led to another (as things usually do on the path to success).
When asked about success, he says that his has come from putting himself in an uncomfortable place, time and time again.
If you stop growing and adapting to change, then everything is an enemy. We have to make change a friend. We should try to learn something new every day. Take one piece of technology that's been baffling you, take 30 days, and aspire to learn it.
We need to be curious. And we need to have some kind of formal education because the world is changing really fast. Absorb, be a sponge.
Life is full of failures, but success is right around the corner.
Really grateful for people like Ian who lead and make lasting and significant changes in our lives. There's a whole lot of value here, can't wait to hear what you think.

Greetings and welcome to the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast, I am your host Peter Lorimer, former hit record producer, now host of the show Stay Here on Netflix and owner LA’s most creative boutique real estate firm, PLG Estates.
Are you sick and tired? Of being sick and tired of NOT being where you want?
Sick of half-assing. Tired of not "getting it".
Sick of everything moving at a turtle's pace. Tired of wondering why you aren't where you want to be.
I want to offer you this advice: get hungry and stop caring what other's think.
I've failed so many times, I almost welcome it. The path to success never reveals itself. You have to keep going for it, knocking at the door. In order for me to grow, I have to keep trying new things all the time. I'm allergic to being stationary. If I'm trying new things, it goes without saying that I'm going to fail.
It's about getting a lot done so I can figure out what I'm doing right... trial and error.
Every decision I make either brings me closer to or further away from my goal. If I'm not changing, I'm not growing.
Speed. Action. And move on. Rinse, wash, and repeat.
Listen to this week's episode of the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast for and get to work.
Golden Nuggets from this episode:
[02:02] “Failure to me is something that I kind of welcome.”
[03:04] “The path to success never reveals itself.”
[05:14] “Every decision I make, either brings me closer to or further away from my goal.”
[06:32] “Speed of communication is everything.”
[09:14] “When you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired of not getting where you wanna do, small the glass.”

New year, new decade, new mindset.
Three weeks in. Let's attack this year with a positive mindset. Don't stop yourself before you even begin. Many of us are waking up each morning in a heavy cloud of negativity. You trudge through the heavy, murky waters of prospecting with shackles of negativity chained to your ankles.
Free yourself by visualizing your success. Manifest good things happening and evict the enemy that's whispering negative, self-deprecating thoughts.
Manifest success. Don't worry about the results - we're Team Stay Out Of The Results and we win every time. Because we focus on what we can give to whatever it is we're doing.
Focus on service, focus on giving, and focus on positivity. Leave everything else behind. Believe in you and believe that you can do it.
Here's the week's episode of The Real Estate Entrepreneur podcast.
Golden Nuggets from this episode:
[02:09] “I embrace change because whenever I see change, I see there’s a chance to have an advantage.”
[02:35] “if we have a mindset that is negative and is defeatist, we are not gonna get out of the gate great.”
[05:52] “When I sit down and I prospect now, I literally have no emotional attachment to the outcome.”
[09:37] “Whether you get the listing or not, you should be in your car sitting outside and saying: -I got this.”
[13:05] “manifesting isn’t a guaranty of you getting it, it’s just a guaranty of you remaining in action.”

Greetings and welcome to the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast, I am your host Peter Lorimer, former hit record producer, now host of the show Stay Here on Netflix and owner LA’s most creative boutique real estate firm, PLG Estates.
Building your brand is crucial. It's crucial to your business and specifically to the longevity of it.
Social media is getting saturated by big brands. This means you must get creative. Stand out by being yourself and putting that out into the digital world.
Your voice must be heard.
When creating content, or really with anything I've done, I follow my gut. I've learned to treat data as an indicator, not a navigator, of what I should be doing.
I used to be obsessed with comments and likes. I watched the numbers and pandered to them. I created content that moved towards what I thought people wanted.
My own voice wasn't heard.
I stopped creating with that frame of mind and started creating things that I loved. And anytime I've done that, the end result has been immensely better than what I created when I pandered to what I thought others wanted.
Data is important, but it shouldn't be the guiding light--your gut needs to be your guiding light.
When you start posting things, jump in with two boots. If you're not sure, post anything and everything. And then listen. What are people reacting to?
Nothing is instant. This is going to take months for this to stick.
The best navigator of all is you and your gut. Let's dig in and get to it. Here's the week's episode of The Real Estate Entrepreneur podcast.
Golden Nuggets from this episode:
[02:17] “Data, it’s a little voice that whispers in my ear, and it gives me indicators not navigators of what I should be doing.”
[04:13] “I then set to putting out a series of records where I was just like: -I don’t care if it’s just me and my mom that listens to this!”, and those happen to be the best records I have ever did.”
[05:20] “It seems that the fear of failure seems to be more profound in most people than the hope of success.”
[08:02] “If you are not sure where to jump in, jump in in multiple directions and then listen.”
Thanks for being here,

Greetings and welcome to the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast, I am your host Peter Lorimer, former hit record producer, now host of the show Stay Here on Netflix and owner LA’s most creative boutique real estate firm, PLG Estates.
I'd like to kick off 2020 with a valuable nugget that I live by. From the moment I wake up in the morning until the moment I lay my head on the pillow, this is true: give it all away.
Anything you give away will enrich your career, be it success, knowledge, or secrets.
I've found this to be true time and time again.
This market, specifically Hollywood Hills and L.A., is incredibly cutthroat. Gigantic commissions lend themselves to intense competition. But that's not how I like to live.
When I was in the music industry, there were two different types of producers. One type of producer held everything very close to the chest, and the other type freely gave. There was a super strong correlation between the ones that gave their items away and those that didn't. The ones that gave received tenfold later in their careers.
Surround yourselves with likeminded people. It's super powerful.
I promise, if you give away what you've learned without expectation, when you extend your hand and give others the keys to the kingdom, the universe rewards it.
But regardless of whether or not it's rewarded, it's a better way to live.
Knowledge is never owned, it's only borrowed.
Give this week's podcast a listen to get supercharged for a year of service and giving.
Golden Nuggets from this episode:
[02:45] "Real estate especially in Central Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Hollywood Hills, Westside,
but certainly Beverly Hills and Hollywood Hills is incredibly cut throat"

Greetings and welcome to the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast, I am your host Peter Lorimer, former hit record producer, now host of the show Stay Here on Netflix and owner LA’s most creative boutique real estate firm, PLG Estates.
People pleasing. It's a slow death, and it only hurts you.
When I mention people-pleasing, I'm not talking about service. I believe offering paramount and unparalleled customer service is imperative and the backbone of what we do in real estate.
People-pleasing sounds like that voice in your head that tells you that you're stupid, you're not good enough, and you're going to fail. It's self-deprecating and it stops you from progressing. It's career crushing.
People-pleasing also looks a lot like answering that 10 pm call from a toxic client. That call that leaves feeling like shit about yourself immediately after.
It's rooted in ego and fear.
Ultimately, it's a boundaries issue. It's about not letting the negative voices inside your head and having enough self-respect to charge forward in your career and be present to those around you.
This one's a doozy if I do say so myself. Please give it a listen when you have a moment.
Golden Nuggets from this episode:
[02:11] “Essentially when you are a people pleaser, the person that you are hurting is yourself”
[03:37] “Boundaries are incredibly powerful for our success”
[06:41] “People pleasing will crush your career into a thousand pieces”

Half Measures Mean Nothing - Peter Lorimer - The Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast

Greetings and welcome to the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast, I am your host Peter Lorimer, former hit record producer, now host of the show Stay Here on Netflix and owner LA’s most creative boutique real estate firm, PLG Estates.
Half measures mean nothing.
In real estate, people will try something for 3 months and then they bail. They change tactics. That's a half measure.
You have to be all in. There's no reason that you shouldn't - no matter your age or where you've come from. Everyone has to start somewhere. Don't worry about where that is for you, just start.
Go into it with a positive attitude. Hope for success, but trust the result no matter what. And for love of all things beautiful - don't stop after three months. Give it your all, consistently and constantly for at least a year.
Here's the deal: You will not be successful right off the bat. You won't understand it all the moment you begin. But the wonderful thing is this - you can act your way into right thinking, as opposed to thinking your way into right acting. So just keep going.
Move forward with your head out of the results.
These tactics work, friends. I keep my head in this game day in and day out, striving to squeeze every bit of juice that I can out of the day.
Listen to this week's podcast to get your head in the game.
Golden Nuggets from this episode:
[02:23] “If you don’t run at something constantly and hard, the results are just never gonna come and that’s why I say we gotta be all in”
[02:51] “I have to act my way into right thinking as opposed to think my way into right action”
[08:35] “but the United Kingdom, in my opinion, is choking on a class system and always has been, and guys like me who come working-class backgrounds, you know 'boys trying to do well', you get kind of squashed.”
[09:28] “There is no reason why anybody in any age group shouldn't go all-in”
[11:27] “because I feel if I’m not squeezing every drop of juice out of every day, then I’m betraying the guys that I work with”
[11:50] “Everybody has to start somewhere, just jump in, because half-assing it will mean nothing ever happens.”

His is a great story about insurmountable odds, optimism, and authenticity.
He was bullied throughout his entire childhood, he came to the United States with a check for the first year of school and a suitcase, and he built a company that grew by 5x in a few years.
After 39 one-on-one interviews and intense training he learned deal structure from the inside out at Goldman Sachs. He then took that knowledge to help build things
He's a builder; entrepreneurship is in his blood. And when he learned to not just solve problems but to solve problems for a profit, everything changed.
We even got a little vulnerable in our conversation and talked about the Imposter Syndrome. It haunts entrepreneurs who have a difficult time internalizing success, but Sharran says it also keeps us humble and kind. And kindness wins.
Another thing that wins: cadence - showing up every single day, putting yourself out there. In short, show up.
Hearing stories from the great entrepreneurs of our time has me feeling super thankful. I hope you'll find time to listen to this one, it'll be worth it.
Golden Nuggets from this episode:
[04:09] “A lot of times people use the word entrepreneur as a badge of honor” - Sharran Srivatsaa
[05:36] “People only look at the success stories” - Sharran Srivatsaa
[19:36] “Right before I go to bed, I actually play the movie of my morning in my head with my eyes closed”
[27:48] “The world is changing so fast, that I wanna see what sticks, what works” - Sharran Srivatsaa
[31:38] “and so now when someone is actually spending a 1000 dollars running a facebook ad, they are like -oh, facebook leads suck! and I’m like: “you don’t have a system to nurture them.” -Sharran Srivatsaa
[32:52] “back in the days, we just wanted the phone to ring, now we get bombarded with all sorts of leads” - Peter Lorimer
[33:53] “press a button, it auto SMS them saying: Hey I’m working through a few things for my private clients this evening, I’m just gonna try if you’re available between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, no pressure”, now if you do that and then call them, it’s a completely different call night” - Sharran Srivatsaa
[35:45] “I win everyday because I show up every single day”- Sharran Srivatsaa

Winning has nothing to do with getting "what's mine" and everything to do with gratitude.
Friends, if you woke up in the United States, you've already won. I realize that there are different levels of this and that there are people in our country that are struggling.
That's why we need to be focusing on what we can contribute, instead of what we can get.
Start the day with gratitude. When your eyes open, think: what does the day have in store and how can I give back?
I grew up in a tough neighborhood, and learned from an early age to suck out of life what was mine. Now, I focus on what I can give back.
Wake up with an attitude like that, and you've already won.
Listen to this week's podcast as we uncover ways to win and charge forward with gratitude, hope, and ambition.
Golden Nuggets from this epsiode:
[03:48] “when we wake up in the United States we already won”
[05:32] “because when you fill a room with positivity and sincere and authentic optimism it's freaking contagious.”
[07:32] “I remember playing Donkey Kong at level 1 thinking at myself, there is no freaking way the I am gonna figure out how to get to the next level”
[08:39] “I changed my career at 37 and started from ground zero.”
[10:39] “that's my old music business mentality of when I used to make dance records, I used to have to make them for the floor that would work in six months, so I had to really hone my streetwise skills”

Be a glutton for data. Consume knowledge as much as possible. Fill the fringe time with the productive intake of education. It's everywhere. YouTube, Instagram, blogs, podcasts. Pick your poison and go all-in with investing in YOU.
One of the biggest downfalls I see is realtors not investing in new tools. They peruse books handed to them by whatever brokerage they're in and don't dive all in with learning. Cindy and I, from the very beginning, have been obsessed with progression and discovering new technologies.
I didn't just wake up like this, friends. It's taken gallons of espresso and countless hours of searching and learning to get me to where I am. I have hundreds of failures under my belt, and I've learned to toss aside the notion of caring if I look like a dick or not.
If you're just dipping your toes into all this, come on in. The water's just fine. Let's make a splash together and dive into this week's episode of the Real Estate Entrepreneur Podcast.
Golden Nuggets From This Episode:
[03:09] “Realtors tend to have a habit of, not seeking the new tools, we tend to almost rest in our laurels”
[03:40] “A professional athlete needs to workout, running the track is only just part of the game if anything it is the least amount of work that they do.”
[04:14] “anything and everything you want to find, exists on freaking YouTube”
[04:48] “ Everything that I have found to be successful I never found in a book that a brokerage gave me.”
[07:37] “social media allows all of us to have a voice”
[08:29] “ I treat my business like an athlete would treat theirs”
